It's been another great week. Today was the thanksgiving dinner here at camp Qwanoes and my, was it good. It was actually the second thanksgiving meal today since our church group went out to our pastor's house for a thanksgiving lunch. We, the Kaleo interns at New Life Community Baptist Church, would like to say that we are extremely grateful for the amazing hospitality that your church so graciously extends. This week was the Spiritual Formation class, taught my Marv Penner. Marv brought along his friend Sid Koop, and together, held an amazing first week of classes. We crescendoed the week with a 2 hour spiritual retreat which for me was 2-and-a-half hours because I have hearing problems. Lately we've been having some super games of world-cup class soccer going on in Q-town. On Thursday Steve and I went to a youth leaders meeting at Sondra's (jr. youth leader) house. Mostly we talked about how to control the rambunctious grade 7 boys who so far have only broken one window by throwing rocks. Me and Steve are up to the task to keeping that number in single digits. We also talked about upcoming events and prayed for the ministry. I haven't been to a normal youth event yet, but it seems to me that God isn't the focus of the youth group. Perhaps I'm wrong and it really is Christ-centered, but it feels like its fun fun fun and throw God in at the end. I'll give it some time and see whats really up.
Friday night was a big trip into the mainland. Dotto had a super great plan to go into Ladner on Friday/Saturday and help a foster parent paint our house. Not so much us helping as us serving her by doing it for her. The painting masters were Me, Kevin (the gracious host who made his mom cook for us), Scott, Jahnaya, Alex, and later Jon and Jordan. Friday we took the ferry over, watched a bunch of Disney movies and picked up Jon and Jordan from the ferry terminal at 12:45. Kevin had a great idea which was to visit the creepiest abandoned building in the world at 2 in the morning. It was full of garbage, rubble, graffiti, sofas and creepy dolls with their heads chopped off. After a photo shoot, we hurried our frightened little butts outta there. Five hours of sleep late we arrived at Ellie's house. She's a sweet little 60 year old German foster parent. She's got an adorable little kid named Cody, with the brightest smile you'll ever see. It was a good time painting, realizing we didn't prime it, strip the paint, then prime it. I feel that we not only helped Ellie with her house, we also blessed Melissa who was trying to get this project off the ground for quite a while. Saturday we barely caught the 8:00 ferry and got back to camp around 11:00. Sunday, being today we went to church and afterwards helped clean the thanksgiving decorations up. After that, we went to Pastor Greg's who generously invited us to a thanksgiving lunch. It was scrumptious to say the least. Afterwards, we tried to program his remote control for about 2 hours and then left defeated. Well we leave for surfing at Tofino in 7 hours, so I'd better pack. Till next time, hang ten.
